India’s seventh wicket partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha has turned the third Test against Australia on its head. The two batsmen showed immense character to pull their team out of a tricky position and get them to a position of dominance in Ranchi on Sunday.
With the hosts overhauling Australia’s first innings total of 451, Pujara is looking all set to get to a richly deserved double-hundred, while Saha is well on his way to crack his third Test ton. The middle-order batsmen’s stand has blunted the Aussies, and from here on only one Team can win the contest – Team India.
The first session on Sunday, however, wasn’t devoid of some heated exchanges between the opposing players. In their desperate pursuit of trying to break Pujara and Saha’s impregnable partnership, the Aussies decided to give some good ol’ sledging a shot.
Josh Hazlewood bowled a sharp bouncer to Saha, which the diminutive keeper-batsman defended . The fast-bowler then walked up to Saha and gave him a mouthful. The Bengal lad, though, gave it back to the his lanky opponent like a boss by pointed towards his bowling mark, probably telling to him to go focus on his job and not bother about verbal duels. Clearly rattled, Hazlewood started pointing fingers at Saha too.
Not one to ever stay away from such a situation – as much as he’d like you to believe otherwise – Aussie skipper Steve Smith, too, joined in and had a little something to say to Pujara. The umpires did well to quickly step up and disperse the players before things could get out of hand.
Here’s a video that shows what happened:
