After authoring a book on parenting, Sonali Bendre has now started a book club on the digital platform. Called ‘Sonalisbookclub’, the actress has formed a community of readers, who can air their views and discuss a book once they’ve read it. “If you can’t discuss a book with your friends after reading it, it’s boring. These days everybody leads a hectic life and when you meet, you talk about other things. But on social media there’s an information highway and everything comes fast. By forming the book club on Facebook I am marrying the old habit of reading with new technology. Here we can hangout, discuss, explore new ideas and authors,” says Sonali.
The first book she has chosen is a science fiction Wool by Hugh Howey. “Sci-fi is my fav genre, so I decided to start with it. Everyone may not like to read sci-fi, but this is a small novel, and a great introduction to the genre,” says Sonali who developed a fondness of reading from her childhood. “My father had a transferable job, so apart from my family, books were my constant companion,” she says.
The actress plans to introduce a new book every 10 days or so, depending on the length of the novel. After Wool, she is thinking of either introducing an absolutely new book or a classic. Ask her if her son Ranveer is fond of reading and she says it’s a battle getting him to read. “He is more into movies, but I hope he will develop an interest in reading. It’s an ongoing process,” says the doting mother.
