Kareena, Parineeti, Jacqueline, Deepika, Alia, Athiya, Shruti: Decoding B-Town’s sparrow face selfie craze – Pouty actresses warm up to the bird-inspired pout
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Deepika Padukone
The ducks lips, which was a craze last year with the likes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sporting it seems to be the thing of the past. Sparrow face selfie is the latest buzz word in both B-Town and Hollywood. It entails opening your eyes wide and puckering your lips like you’re a bird waiting to be fed.
One look at the selfies of Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner, Ashley Tisdale and Lindsay Lohan on their Twitter and Instagram accounts, you’ll know what we’re talking about. It’s a different expression from the duck face as there’s a little gap between the lips.
Reality TV star Kylie Jenner, has been the pioneer of this trend. Even her supermodel sister Kendall has posted sparrow-face selfies. According to Kotaku.com, the trendy facial expression is called ‘chun-gao’ in Japanese, which translates literally to Chirp Face. Lindsay Lohan, Ashley Tisdale and Farrah Abraham are also fans of the pouty facial expression. In a recent Instagram post, Farrah purses her lips and opens her eyes wide for an even more bird-like look.
In India, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez and Shruti Haasan have posted images of their bird-inspired pouts on their Instagram and Twitter handles.
Jackie has posted a couple of selfies on her account where she sported red lips, wide-eyed and there’s a gap between her lips. Malaika Arora Khan posted an early morning bedroom selfie, where she sports a magpie face. Kareena’s angular face look even more sharper in her albatross selfie and Deepika’s behind-the-scenes shoot selfie sees her sporting bright red lips. Priyanka Chopra had posted a Goth pout selfie with designer Manish Malhotra and Shruti Haasan posted a ‘work-mode’ hash-tagged selfie.
Designer Masaba Gupta, too, succumbed to the trend and posted a dunnock face selfie of late captioning it as, “7 am shoot situation” and designer Pernia Qureshi took a mirror selfie with her side profile.
Looks like this pout trend will dominate the rest of the year.
