Mumbai Indians(MI) will look to continue their winning momentum when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday. They have a tough task at hand as SRH has won both their matches and will keep no stone unturned to take two points from this enticing battle.
Both teams have abundance of gunpowder in their batting line up and no total on the board can be regarded as safe. David Warner and Yuvraj Singh have been firing on all cylinders helping them post a mammoth total of 208 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. MI on the other hand boasts of Jos Butler upfront and power hitters like Kieron Pollard to take care of the death overs.
SRH arguably has the best bowling attack comprising of pace batteries like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ben Cutting and Mustafizur Rahaman. While the likes of Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah and Harbhajan Singh of Mumbai can send tremors in any formidable batting line up.
This encounter will pitch international stalwarts against each other and these individual duels will very likely shape the course of the match.
Lets have a look at the key player battles to watch out for in this mouthwatering clash:
Lasith Malinga vs David Warner
Each team will throw their best players in the fray right from the first ball as Malinga with the new ball will look to remove Warner as quickly as possible. Warner has been in fine form this tournament smashing two fifties in as many outings and will try to hit the ball out of the park during the power play overs.
This makes Malinga’s spell to the Australian vital. If he survives on a flat track at the Wankhede even for ten overs SRH will look to post at least 200 on the board, with the firepower of Yuvraj and Moises Henriques to follow. Malinga got his yorkers right at the dot hole against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been turning lethal again.
Rohit Sharma vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a fantastic start to this year’s IPL campaign conceding just 27 against the Royal Challengers and 21 against the Gujarat Lions also picking up two crucial wickets in both matches. Whereas, Rohit Sharma will look to bury his pathetic performance of his last two outings and go all guns blazing against his national teammate. He has sacrificed his opening slot and now should look at being the lynch pin in the middle order of MI batting line up.
Jasprit Bumrah vs Yuvraj Singh
Bumrah must get his length right to spare the blushes of ending up in the stands when Yuvraj swings his blade. He tormented the RCB bowlers in his maiden outing hitting three sixes and seven boundaries enroute to his 62 of just 27 balls. Bumrah is going to charge in during the death overs and Yuvraj’s eyes will invariably light up if he bowls anything short or wide. But, Yuvraj’s unease with yorkers is an open secret, and Bumrah is well known to get them right at the block hole.
The finishing overs hinge on Bumrah’s capability to end the Yuvi-show as soon as possible or at least contain him.
