IPL 2017: KKR captain Gautam Gambhir still desires to play for THIS team – Gambhir who led KKR to IPL glory in 2012 and 2014, plans on making a return to former team Delhi Daredevils.
Delhi Daredevils (DD) have been the most underperforming team in the 10 years of the IPL. With each passing year, the IPL franchise has experimented with reshuffling their squad with a perfect blend of young and overseas players but have made it to the playoffs only twice in all the IPL tournaments.
Despite DD’s lack of success to win the cash-rich tournament yet, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir has revealed his desire to play to his old team. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Gambhir revealed that his heart still lies with the Delhi Daredevils. He said, “I think my heart is still with Delhi. I played for three years for Delhi (Daredevils). Somewhere, deep within my heart, I’d love to finish with Delhi. Though I am the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and would want them to win it for the third time, but since I’m a Delhi boy too, I obviously want Delhi Daredevils to do well as well.”
During the initial years of the tournament, DD compromised of the most fearsome batsman in the shortest format of the game. The likes of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers, T Dilshan, David Warner all played for DD but were unsuccessful in guiding the team to great heights. Following three fruitless years with DD, Gambhir joined KKR in 2011 and guided them to IPL glory instantly in 2012 and 2014 as captain.
Ahead of the upcoming IPL auctions next year, each squad will once again release some key players depending on how they perform in the current campaign. KKR may finally opt of a captain change just like Rising Pune Supergiant did for captain MS Dhoni, that may see Gambhir departing to DD.
