III (3) movie review: Glorifying gory
Director: Srinivasa Raju
Cast: P Ravi Shankar, Pooja Gandhi, Makarand Deshpande, Ravi Kale, Tabla Naani, Shruthi and others
This film with the strange name III, but actually the third part of Dandupalya, sets a dangerous path for other filmmakers who make films on crime. The film by Srinivasa Raju is a graphical explanation of how a gang raped and murdered innocent people mostly in Bengaluru over many years. There is no special twist to the story, and it only narrates the police version with a bit of alleged research to say that some of the evidence were created as there was no proof to convict them.
The story may take any liberty, but the filmmaker takes liberty with the minds of the audience. Showing murder after murder and rape after rape does not make a good script. The plot would have been better describing how the police cracked the case. It is done in such a simple manner that you wonder why they waited for 80 murders before catching the criminals. But instead of showing the complexity of the crime and investigation, the film only shows the crime being created. The explanation about the sound created by the body of letting out air and blood when the neck is cut is repeated to shock the audience. But the same kind of scenes was in the first part also. So its use here is to cater to such crude mentalities.
The film starts with a journalist exposing the police after they plant evidence to convict the gang members in court. The police officer then explains why they created evidence. But he says that it was only two pages of evidence that was created, but the rest of the allegations is true.
There are very few good things about the film, one being its background score. The film also looks nicely made due to good photography. It also has a fast narrative and moves quickly from scene to scene.
The film has too much bloodshed and gory details of rape, that is not good for any kind of audience and not just kids. It is sad to see glorification of committing crime. If you are game for shocking scenes, watch III otherwise give it a royal miss.
