
While shooting for a scene in Bhendi Bazaar, the team of Sarbjit faced some serious hurdles as the sequence hurt the sentiments of a group of locals. The scene involved Darshan Kumar giving a speech on peace and prosperity followed by a certain group holding up anti-India slogans in Urdu. The shooting was halted and executive producer Zafar Mehdi was imprisoned.
Darshan spoke about the incident and stated, “I play Sarabjit’s lawyer, Awaiz Sheikh and after my speech my character is accused of being anti-national and pro-Sarabjit”. He added, “The shoot was halted for over four hours. Later, Omung and I appraised the authorities about the scene in question and requested them to release Zafar since we had valid permission to shoot”.
Sarabjit is being directed by Omung Kumar and Beautiful stars Aishwarya Rai, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadda. The script has been written by Omung himself. The movie tells the story of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian prisoner in a Pakistani jail, through the eyes of his sister Dalbir Kaur.
